Alvaro Soler’s debut single, “El mismo sol” (English: The Same Sun), is a Spanish-German singer-songwriter. Soler, Simon Triebel, and Ali Zuchowski collaborated on the song for his debut studio album Eterno Agosto (2015). The song was recorded in Berlin, where Soler lives, and was first released on the singer’s personal YouTube channel. Soler was signed to Universal Music due to the video’s popularity, and the single was released on iTunes on May 8, 2015, marking his debut.

“El mismo sol” was an instant hit and became one of 2015’s summer hits. It reached the top thirty on most of the charts it appeared on, including the Italian, Polish, and Swiss Singles Charts. Following the original Spanish version’s success, a special Spanglish version was released for the US and UK markets, featuring additional English lyrics and Jennifer Lopez’s vocals. This version charted on many Billboard charts, including the Billboard Latin Airplay chart, which peaked at number one for the week of December 19, 2015. In 2015, Lopez invited Soler to perform the song with him at an iHeart Radio function.
