About .
“True” is a song by English new wave band Spandau Ballet, released on 15 April 1983 as the title track and third single from their third studio album. It was written by the band’s guitarist/songwriter Gary Kemp to express his feelings for Altered Images lead singer Clare Grogan, influenced musically by songs of Marvin Gaye and Al Green he was listening to at the time. Kemp’s lyrics were inspired by the opening line of The Beatles’ “Dig a Pony” and Green’s first words from “Let’s Stay Together” inspired the chorus. Kemp wanted to shift the sound of Spandau Ballet into soul and incorporated band member Steve Norman’s newfound interest in the saxophone into his writing. Norman credited “Just the Two of Us” by Grover Washington Jr. and Bill Withers as having influenced his instrumental solo for the song.
Spandau Ballet - True .
(Ha-ha-ha, ha-ah-hi)
(Ha-ha-ha, ha-ah-hi)
So true
Funny how it seems
Always in time, but never in line for dreams
Head over heels when toe to toe
This is the sound of my soul
This is the sound
I bought a ticket to the world
But now I’ve come back again
Why do I find it hard to write the next line?
Oh, I want the truth to be said
(Ha-ha-ha, ha-ah-hi)
I know this much is true
(Ha-ha-ha, ha-ah-hi)
I know this much is true
With a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue
Dissolve the nerves that have just begun
Listening to Marvin (All night long)
This is the sound of my soul
This is the sound
Always slipping from my hands
Sand’s a time of its own
Take your seaside arms and write the next line
Oh, I want the truth to be known
(Ha-ha-ha, ha-ah-hi)
I know this much is true
(Ha-ha-ha, ha-ah-hi)
I know this much is true
I bought a ticket to the world
But now I’ve come back again
Why do I find it hard to write the next line?
Oh, I want the truth to be said
(Ha-ha-ha, ha-ah-hi)
I know this much is true
(Ha-ha-ha, ha-ah-hi)

This much is true
